LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

At the Lake Eustis Sailing Club over the past several years Joan and Dave Williams have run the races as United States Sailing Certified Club Race Officers. Dave has recently passed the test for District Certified Race Officer and is listed as such. He has District D of the United Sates which is the 9 southeast states from Arkansas and Tennessee to Florida. That means that they may be off to run Championship races around the district.

Over the weekend in the MC fleet you could have called the winner Dave, because Dave Johnson was first, Dave Moorhouse second and Dave Moring third. Commodore June Howells was the first woman and Jennifer Jones was the second woman.

The Flying Scot races were won by Chris Erichsen. Ray Laguna was second and Ron Baerwitz third. Ron won both races on Saturday, but did not compete on Sunday.

Jim Lingeman won 3 out of the four races of the Wayfarer group with Dave Hepting second and Mike Murto third.

In the Laser fleet’s 12 races over the weekend, Alejandro Illera was first, Ron Krentel second, and Patrick Daniel third.

Sailing lessons with youth and high school students continues on Saturdays. Racing resumes on New Years Day.

Happy Thanksgiving to all member and friends of The Lake Monroe Sailing Association! Here is what is happening this week at LMSA:
Saturday, November 21st - Willie, Orion, Andy, Mike Padgett, Popeye, Bill, Lee Atkinson, Lee and Mike headed up to Crescent City for the 2nd Annual Bear Island Regatta. The Crescent City Yacht Club put on a class act as 10 boats competed on Crescent Lake. It was a gorgeous day as the temperatures stayed cool and the winds light. The one lap race around Bear Island was challenging but fun. If you have never been to Crescent City we highly recommend this beautiful place in the country with a great lake.
LMSA came away with three trophies as Show Me piloted by Andy Forrest, Mike Padgett and Popeye took top honors in the their class. Lee Adkison and his crew named Lee took third on Dauntless. Lough-Buoy showed in the board boat division.
Thanks to all of the members that came out to help make this a great regatta.
..
Saturday, November 28th - Come and join the friends and members as we hold our first ever Thanksgiving Leftover Sail and Raft Up. Activities start around 1pm on Saturday, so come out for some sailing, fun and leftovers! Contact Mike Loughlin for further information or reply to this email.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

..
The Lake Eustis Sailing Club had exciting racing and capsizing over the weekend in the higher winds of the week. With the increased wind some of the "luck" in sailing goes away and three classes had the same person winning both races.

In the Wayfarer fleet James McIntyre won both races. Jim Lingeman was second and Mike Murto third. In the second race McIntyre was the only one to finish.

Henry Picco won both Flying scot races, David Asaibene second and Ray Laguna third..
In the MC scow group, Geoff Moehl won both races. Scott Tillema was second and Jon Pomerleau was third.

Races for those boats were canceled on Sunday because of even higher wind.
The Laser class races a little earlier in the day and was able to sail both days. Rob Krentel was first, Alejandro Illera second and Marc Solal third. Kevin Ratigan sailed only on Sunday and was two points ahead for that day only.

Next weekend the sailing club will host the MC scow Southeast Regional Championship with 40 boats expected.
Sailing Classes for 8 to 15 year olds in Optimist prams and for high school students in 420 sloops continues on Saturdays.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The Eustis High School sailors moved forward with the Interscholastic (High School) regatta at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club this past Saturday. Racing started at 10 AM with light winds and continued to 4:30 PM when the wind had increased to scattered white caps and spirited sailing.
Sixteen high schools from across central Florida including Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Jensen Beach, and Fort Lauderdale each entered an A and B team that sailed in 16 boats, changing boats after every two races for a total of 12 races. Last year, the Eustis sailors held a six boat regatta with six high school entered.
Sarasota high school is the power house in this area and they won the small regatta last year as well as this year’s bigger event. Lakewood high school was second and St. Thomas Aquinas was third.
While the Eustis sailors ended up 15th of 16, it was a step ahead. The increased traffic in a 16 boat race brought a lot of important lessons for them that are learned no other way.
In the regular racing at the sailing club, Jim McIntyre won the Wayfarer races. Dave Hepting was second and Mike Murto third. In the Flying Scot races first was Ron Baerwitz, second George Golder and third Ray Laguna. The MC scows had Andy Fox first, Jon Pomerleau second and Dave Moring third.
The Laser class was topped by Ron Krentel, with Steve Hayden second and Alejandro Illera third.. Jeffery Hayden was first youth.
Next Saturday and Sunday the sailing club will host the 4th Annual Florida Inland Lakes Youth Championship for Optimist Prams, Lasers, and Club 420 sloops.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION

GREETINGS LMSA WITCHES AND GHOULS!
This Halloween, Saturday October 31st, come out on Lake Monroe in your ghoul-ship and prepare for an afternoon of sportsmanship and partying! With an entry fee of one pumpkin pie to share, you will be eligible to win one of the most coveted LMSA awards ever presented! The three equally-weighted factors used in determining the recipient of this award are: THE PUMPKIN RACE, THE BEST DRESSED BOAT/CREW and THE BEST GHASTLY HALLOWEEN STORY.
THE PUMPKIN RACE: This will involve exchanging the pumpkin-head you are given from the Ghost Ship with at least one other boat. The object is to sail around two of the numbered Manatee Marks based on the numbered pumpkin-head you have on-board during that rounding. You will want to think through the rules presented below, because it will be the most dastardly ghoul-ship that comes out ahead.
THE BEST DRESSED BOAT/CREW: The intent here is to somehow appear “Halloweenish”. It may be how the boat is decked out or how the crew is dressed or presents themselves. This determination will be made when you first approach the Ghost Ship to get your pumpkin-head.
THE BEST PRESENTED GHASTLY HALLOWEEN STORY: Sometime after dusk, each ghoul-ship will be asked to present a scary two to five minute Halloween story to the rafted up boats. This may be a simple reading or an acted-out skit. The amount of effort that you have put into this will most likely determine the points you receive.
SO….. seek out the ghastly Ghost Ship anytime after 1500 hours. It will be anchored approximately 2 miles due north of Marina Isle at N 29 51 by W 081 16. It could well be to your advantage to not be the last one there!
1. When you (under sail) hail the Ghost Ship to “GIVE UP YER BOOTY!”, a randomly selected Halloween pumpkin-head with a number on it will be tossed to you. That number indicates the Manatee Mark that you must sail around….(unless you have exchanged pumpkin-heads before you get there!)
2. Whenever a boat is hailed from within (approximately) three of her boat-lengths, and told to “SLACK YER SHEETS!” it MUST immediately stop sailing and exchange pumpkin-heads. It is up to the requesting ghoul-ship, however, to make the approach for the pumpkin-head exchange. A seaman-like exchange will be best served, as it neither boat may continue sailing until both pumpkins have been successfully exchanged.
3. You may exchange pumpkin-heads once with as many different ghoul-ships as you like. This may occur any time after you have received your pumpkin-head from the Ghost Ship, up until the time you have successfully rounded your second Manatee Mark.
4. The pumpkin-head you have on-board when you round the second Manatee Mark is then returned directly to the Ghost Ship, and your corrected elapsed time calculated.
You are now welcome to raft up, share your goodies and pumpkin pie, and let your Happy Hours begin.
If there is insufficient wind to sail, come out and participate under power. If the weather is particularly nasty, we will most likely convene on Wolfies’ porch. In any event, come looking a little scarier than you normally are, but be sure to have a scary story to tell… and hope you don’t have to walk-the-plank!

Please RSVP to Byron (email: mertland@gmail.com, phone 732.674.3180) or DJ at (email: dj@usailflorida.com, phone 407.921.7755). We need to know how many pumpkin heads there will be....

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The lake winds tested the catamarans on Lake Eustis Sailing Clubs Annual Catamaran Regatta over the weekend. These are the boats with two hulls. When the wind is up a little, and they can lift the windward hull out of the water to sail on just one narrow hull in the water, they go very fast. When the wind drops and they have to pull both hulls through the water, they go very slow. Over the week end they were having patches of fast and slow all over the lake as the wind gusts and lulls were coning and going.. It tested their abilities of changing gears from fast to slow and trying to stay in the windy streaks on the water. The numbers from 40 or 50 boats of 2 years ago to 26 this past weekend was blamed on the economy with fewer sailors traveling.
Catamarans are not raced regularly at the local sailing club, but two members sailed this weekend. Luke Yates, Youth member, Optimist Pram and Laser sailor, crewed for Pete Halley of Daytona Beach on a Hobie 16 to win their division. Richard Kinnie of Ocoee and LESC member sailing an A catamaran for his second year was second in the first of 10 races ending up 6th of the 9 boats in the A catamaran fleet. Richard usually sails an MC scow at Lake Eustis, but can often be seen sailing his A cat with it’s tall square headed sail, when he practices on the lake.
First place A cat was Chris Cordes, second Rush Bird, and third was Woody Cope. There were five Hobie 16 with first place Pete Halley of Halifax SC in Daytona Beach, second was Steve Grinstead and third Mike Burley.
The other seven types of catamarans were raced against each other in two groups on time allowances, adding time to the finishes of the faster boats. The first in the non-spinnaker group with the slowest boat, a Hobie 14 with Bill Brooks. Second was John Cole sailing a Hobie Getaway and third was Mike Teal sailing a Hobie 17 Sport.
The Spinnaker fleet was lead by David Ingram sailing a Formula 18 and second place was Beth Bonifant with another Formula 18 and third was Matt McDonald in a Formula 16.
Next weekend the sailing club goes back to club races on the weekend with sailing lessons on Saturday.

Luke Yates was the first youth. Ron Stevenot was the first Portsmouth sailing an Omega and Jeffery Hayden was second sailing a Sunfish.
With a long delay on Saturday, the other boats got in one light wind race. Mike Murto was the only Wayfarer. Greg Murphy was the first Flying Scot, with Ray Laguna second. Dave Moring won the MC scow race with Andy Fox second, and John Hauch third.
On Sunday the Wayfarers Scots and MC scows got in one race before the T-storms sent them home. LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Variety happened at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s weekend races. Light wind on Saturday. Sunday there was pleasant wind with small waves interrupted by stronger wind with rain and then the wind fading. The racing was all over when the heavy rain of the afternoon came in.

MC scow class had two races each on Saturday and Sunday with Dave Johnson and Dave Moring swapping first and second. Finally Dave Moring was first and Dave Johnson second and John Hauch came in third for the week end.

Flying Scots have a separate Saturday and Sunday series with Ray Laguna the only one sailing in Saturday’s two races and George Golder and Chris Erichsen exchanging first and second on Sunday. If you score them together for the weekend it is Ray Laguna first, Chris Erichsen second, and George Golder third.

In the Wayfarer Fleet Mike Tighe was first with two wins on Sunday, Jim Lingeman second and Mike Murto third.

The Laser fleet, which has shorter courses, had twelve races over the weekend with Rob Krentel first, Alejandro Illera second , and Sam Chapin third. Ben Getchell was the first youth. He had been the big winner last weekend, but in Saturday’s races he was pushed back to second place. He missed the Sunday racing and that dropped him back to sixth for the weekend.

Two other classes had single boat races because the other boats didn’t come. Othon Dominguez in the C scow and Carlton and Aggie Brown in San Juan Portsmouth.

Next Saturday, September 19, the Lake Eustis Sailing Club Youth Foundation will have an Open House from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM for high school age youth and their parents to see the activities, enjoy boat rides, pizza and soda.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

We sail informally on Wednesday evening and I will just throw in this report. Our high school sailors are mostly doing school sport right now.

I don't know what is happening to this crazy Portsmouth thing. Ray Laguna wants to form a Portsmouth Fleet. Like we don't have one. Hey, what has Sam been doing for the past 3 years??

Then it looks like the Carlton and Aggie Brown with the San Juan 21 are the only ones really interested. They have the boat is the water and ready to go but not wind and no RC. Then they are off to check on grand babies-- that's OK, there is no wind and no RC anyway. Ray knows that the wind will be bad so he is off firing his pistol with gun group.

Now Jim Orth with the Lido wants to sail P. Ron Stevenot (new member) the granddaughter and the Omega want to sail P. Charles Mancino and the Precision 15 think that racing P would be a step up from single cruising. Steve Hayden (the lightening guy) will send the little fellow out in the Sunfish with the Lasers.

Now Wednesday evening, the folks that started all this, Carlton and Aggie Brown show up with Kevin Somebody that wants to join LESC and race his Oday Day Sailor. That is another P boat.

Now that is great, right. New members, growing new fleet-- but then they all get in Lasers. Carleton Brown, Aggie Brown, Kevin got emergency call and couldn't stay, Kim Kelley (full rig is a fair amount of wind), DENNIS OLDHAM, (RETIRED AND RUNNING OUT OF THINGS TO DO-- ask him about the wind, Darcy Jensen (one of our regulars and has to go home to study CALCULUS. I am glade I don't go to high school these days.) Luke Yates in Laser and part of time with the neighbor kid on the bow. Sasha had the Opti out. Craig Yates brought his new/old Phantom (like a biggish Sunfish)out and Darcy sailed it some.

Gosh, if those P guys would just sail Lasers it would save a lot of fuss.

The Pizza Lady came through. We saw the rest of the "Morning Light". They made it to Hawaii, but didn't win. Sam is glad he doesn't have a 52 foot boat and can sail and then go home for dinner and TV. Luke want to do the Morning Light trip and be the guy they hoist to the top of the mast to see if they can see Hawaii yet.

Next week it is back to North U and we will try to get the marks out earlier to have some race starts if any of the P fleet guys want to sail Lasers again.

Any way it was a lot of fun and sunset is about 7:28 now.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Fog, then light wind, then no wind, then changing wind did in the Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s Labor Day Regatta that was attempted this past Saturday and Sunday. This was to be the winter season opener for the club MC scows, Flying Scots and Wayfarers. They waited and waited, but couldn’t get any races in.

The Laser fleet, that sails a shorter course, managed 2 races on Saturday and 4 races on Sunday with High School sailor Ben Getchell winning all six races and the Championship. Second, but first adult was Alejandro Illera and third was Rob Krentel.

Optimist pram sailing lessons for youth ages 8 to 15 continues on Saturdays with High School Sailing Team practice on Saturday afternoons.

Next weekend Club Racing continues on Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday, September 19, from 4:30 to 6:30 is an open house for 8th to 12th grade students and parents to see what sailing is all about. Complimentary boat rides, pizza and soda are planned.

The first invitational regatta of the season is October 3 and 4, and is the annual catamaran regatta.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Brisk winds from the edge of tropical storm Claudette gave Lake Eustis Sailing Club members exciting sailing on Saturday and more on Sunday with a more than a few capsizes.

The Laser winner for the weekend was Dave Chapin with Rob Krentel second and Alejandro Illera third. Ben Getchell was the first youth. Ben picked up Caroline Chapin as crew to help with the increased winds of Sunday.

The MC scows sailed their match racing series which was postponed by thunderstorms from last month. In match racing the boats race two at a time against each other and then switch competitors. So there is a winner and looser in each race and after everyone has sailed against each member of the group they count up the wins and the losses. Over the weekend, Craig Eaton had the most wins with Robert Newland second and Geoff Moehl third.

The regular racing schedule begins Labor Day weekend and continues through the Summer. Youth sailing lessons begin Saturday, August 29.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION

To all Members and Friends:

The Lake Monroe Sailing Association held their weekly Wednesday Night Rum Race last night. Six boats enter but only five boats competed. Wind Gods knew we were coming as the wind, swirly at times, was mainly out of the east around 10mph developing some minor white caps. This set up the Rum Course as a fast down wind with a very shifty upwind as boats tacked in all directions to make it back to the Romance marks.

DJ McCabe's Precision 23 once known as "Hard Hat" and now "Ha Ha" stole third from Lough-Buoy by 40 seconds on corrected time. Miss P. helmed by Mike Padgett rounded out the field in fifth place. This is Mike's second Rum Race of the season but his overall time is improving as he is becoming more familiar with the format. Ron Ferland on the Hunter 23 is gunning for the Rum as Ron and his dog single handed the Rum Course for a second place finish. Ron has his sites on the Cruzan Rum and it will only be a matter of time when we will be awarding him one. Andy Forrest had a crew of three on Show Me last night as they finished first on corrected time. This will be Show Me's fourth bottle of Rum for the season, but others are getting closer as Andy pointed out last night.

Show Me may be the boat to beat but you can not beat the sunsets that Lake Monroe offer. This is why we sail on Wednesday Night. It is not always about the rum! Mike Padgett took some great pictures last night and we have attached one for your viewing pleasure. Thanks again to Chuck and Scott at Lemoncello's for the great service and food.

OCALA SAILING CLUB had a successful regatta this past weekend and several people from Lake Eustis Sailing Club participated. I have no official report.

MT. DORA YACHT CLUB had a successful regatta this past weekend. No official report, but I understand they had 21 Lasers, most of which will sail this Saturday at Lake Eustis in the Treasure Coast Laser races. I will add Mt Dora to the Central Florida Sailing list just so the list is more complete, but the regatta is the only thing they do now and much of the on the water things are done by the Lake Eustis group.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB was quiet this week with sailors and PROs at Mt. Dora and Ocala (Lake Weir)

LAKE MONROE WEDNESDAY SAILING

Last night we experienced a changing of the guard at the Lake Monroe Sailing Associations weekly Rum Race, sponsored by Cruzan Rums.

The "Show Me" crew lead by Andy Forrest were denied their third bottle of rum by one of our newest members Byron Hicks on his Force 5 "Monkey Butt". The wind gods were very good for some of us and not so good for others as six boats entered the Rum Race and only four finished.

Peter Suah's Raven finished fourth as he single handed the Hunter 23 around the rum course. Lee Adkinson on Dauntless was a quick third placed while Lough-Bouy was a wash and Ollie Oop threw in the towel.

We are racing every Wednesday Night so come out and join us.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Local sailor almost wins the big prize as 80 sailors from ten states squared off for five races in winds from light and shifty to exciting at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s MC scow Mid Winter Championship Regatta sailed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Dave Moring, local sailor, won three of the five races, was second in another, and you would think that would be the best, but he had to eat a 44th in the second race and ended up in fourth place- just out of the big time.
Andy Burdick, president of the Melges Boat Company, the Wisconsin company that builds the boats was third, Skip Moorhouse, a sailmaker from New Jersey was second and Rob Terry, an ordinary sailor from Michigan managed to stay out of trouble and win the regatta with a best race of a 3rd and worst of 12th.
Prizes were awarded in other categories: first woman and overall fourteenth was Andrea Jarecki from Wisconsin, first youth and overall seventeenth was Coye Harrett also from Wisconsin, first under 50 year old was Andy Burdick, first 50 year old was Rob Terry, first 60 year old was Skip Moorhouse, first 70 year old and overall twenty-third was Bob Miller of Michigan.
Next week the Lake Eustis Sailing Club will resume club racing, youth training and high school sailing.

MORE NEWS....CENTRAL FLORIDA YACHT CLUB

Hi Sam
Having trouble getting all the results from the Clemens cup last weekend, but we do know we won our class and brought home a first place trophy.
Aggie and Carlton

This e-mail is from Aggie and Carlton Brown that are members of the LESC and launch and practice sailing their San Juan 21 on Lake Eustis. They race regularly with the Lake Monroe Sailing Association, which has a small but growing San Juan 21 fleet and recently sailed with the Central Florida Yacht Club on Lake Harris. Now we need to know how many and what in their class and what else sailed. I will keep working at it.

GOOD WORK BROWNS. Nothing helps like practice sailing and boat handling.

MORE ON TRANS MONROE---LMSA

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCAITION

This week the Lake Monroe Sailing Association held their first Rum Race of 2009. We had 6 boats that wanted to compete but only 4 of them completed the course. The wind gods were very nice to us as they made sure that the sea breeze kicked it up to 10 our of the east. If you stayed out longer you were greeted with the full moon. It seems that the Show Me crew has run out of Rum from last year as they beat out Greg Archambault Nothin Doin for the top honors. Congratulation to Diane and Andy Forrest for the first win of the Rum Racing Season! Please see the attached scores. On Sunday March 8th, we were suppose to have the Tequila Run but it seems that everyone was too tired to compete. We will try to reschedule.Fair Winds,Mike Loughlin Lake Monroe Sailing Associationwww.flalmsa.orgPO Box 297Sanford, FL 32771

Fickle winds both Saturday and Sunday tested the sailors at Lake Eustis Sailing Club. They managed to get in a full schedule of races, but needed an extra 2 hours of sailing on Sunday to do it.

Don Browning won the Flying Scot races with Francois Simon second and Ray Laguna third.

MIDDLE OF THE WEEK THING

To all members and friends,As promised this weekend will be the Lake Monroe Sailing Association's overnight trip to Hontoon Island! Sorry for such a short notice on the activities but the Commodore, the vice Commodore and the Fleet Captain have had a busy two weeks. But enough for our sad stories, we will communicate better. We will be leaving the marina at noon on Saturday the 7th and head down the St. John's to Hontoon Island which is approximately 18 nautical miles. This will take 3.5 to 4 hours to motor there. We are suggesting that all of us stay in touch with each other by cell phone or radio if you have one. The slips cost $12.00 and will be well worth it.On the way back Sunday, there will be a Tequila Race from the last pylon's on the I-4 overpass to the Romance marks. Each sailor must keep his or hers own time and turn it in to Andy or Mike at Wolfy's. The winner will receive a bottle of Patron Silver! The phone committee will be contacting the membership to see who will be heading to Hontoon. Please do not hesitate to contact Andy or myself should you have any questions. We have attached a flyer wit some more information. WEEKLY UPDATE.

VILLAGES SAILING CLUB. No word. See note from 2 weeks ago.

OCALA SAILING CLUB. Their regatta April 3 to 5th. Newsletter on web site indicates Spring racing and youth sailing plans. Phone numbers are available on newletter accessed on the web site. If interested in any of their activities I suggest you call ahead.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB.
The cold front of Sunday, March first, blew away the racing at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club before it got stated, but the brisk winds on Saturday, the last of February, left exciting racing for everyone.
Most fleets had big mixes in the finishes in the several races, but the eight boats of the Flying Scot Class finished both of their races in the same order each time. Larry Klick was first, Jack Bazner second and Don Browning third.
In the Wayfarer Fleet Andy Douma, visiting from Canada, was first, Jim Lingeman second and Jim McIntyre third.
David Moorhouse won the MC scow races with David Moring second and Scot Tillema third.
Randy Rea of Crystal River won most of the eight Laser races with Rob Krentel second and Alejandro Illera third. Darcy Jensen was the first youth and the first woman.
At Ferran Park for the Saturday morning George Fest activities, the advanced Optimist Pram class thrilled the crowd with a drill of seven boats capsized, righted, and bailed out. In the afternoon one 420 high school boat did the same, just before the canoe races.
Club racing will continue at the sailing club next week before the Mid Winter Regattas start in two weeks. Then many sailors from the frozen north will be visiting Lake Eustis for instructional clinics from the Melges Boat Company and a chance to take a break from ice boating.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION. The Trans Monroe Race on March 28 and Bouy Races on March 29. plus
Well folks, we missed you all on the water this Sunday! FYI, you missed the Mardi Gras cupcakes!!!
SailGator, Dauntless, & The Great Pumpkin showed up to play on the 'Great Lake Monroe'. I don't think I missed mentioning anyone, as the lake appeared more riddled with small fishing boats than Club Members! The forecast called for greater winds than there actually were.
After a few necessary replacements and repairs to the good 'ole Pumpkin, we headed out. Chris decided we would stay within the channel and make a run toward the bridge. Jerry and Kyle hung with us for a while, then left us to our own. As we approached the last marker prior to the bridge we entered some kind of crazy vortex. Wind, no wind, shifting wind, no wind. Tack, tack, tack, OMG!!!(My arm is still sore) I am praying, 'please don't make me do this all the way under the bridge to the other side'. Alas, the decision was made to come about. Now, looking into the East the Lake appeared as smooth as glass, except where we were. I thought to myself, it was due to this little vortex at the bridge. But as we sailed East, the wind seemed to be following. No, it was growing! Moving ever so swiftly ahead. And so it was, looking to the sky, that 'The Front' that had been promised was showing it's tail. Wow, what a fun little ride!!! It looked like SailGator saw its' approach and decided to put her sails back up. Dauntless was elusive all afternoon. It was now around 5pm or so. Since there seemed to be NO ONE to raft up with, we went in early and voted to go to the 'Willow Tree' for drink & food. Poor, lonely cupcakes!
There is a 'Chrome & Leather Bash' at the Museum of Florida Art in DeLand Friday night, and the DeLand Bike Fest is this Saturday on Mainstreet.
If we don't see you downtown, we'll catch you in March!

CENTRAL FLORIDA YACHT CLUB. No report from them and the Co-commodore has requested I not e-mail him so he is off the list. I get lost trying to find something on the "message board" of their web site. Maybe Linda or someone in the know will tell us what is happening. I assume the Clemens Cup still on for March 14 and 15 at Hickory Point.

THE SAILING CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA. We are into the March and April newsletter available on web site which indicates that they are trying to set up a program with the sea scouts, they had races in January and February, next racing will be March 8. Meetings still scheduled for Colonialtown Community Center, but I have been told that the meetings have moved to different location. The telephone numbers are on the newsletter and I recomemd calling someone if interested in lessons, teaching, racing, attending, or charter trips-- I think it is still going on.

The weekends activities.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s George Washington Birthday Regatta was challenged by winds, brisk and shifty, then light and shifty, and then none. This shortened the 5 race regatta to three races for the seven fleets on three races courses.
Alejandro Illera would not be intimidated as he won all three races defending his win from last years regatta in the Laser races. Pete Haley of Halifax Sailing Association was second and Jerry Beck was third.. Franklin Trainer on Halifax was the first youth in the Laser. Conner Kechriotis of Eustis was second and Josie Trainer of Halifax was third.
In the Optimist pram group of ages 8 to 15, Andrew Clarke of Halifax was the first overall and the first in the blue fleet. Delaney Caron was second and Luke Yates was third. Max Eppaillard was first in the green fleet, Aaron Pennington second and Hope Behnke third.
In the handicap fleet Steve Hayden was first in a Lightning, Geoff Moehl sailing an RS Feva was second and James Heffernan was third in a Wayfarer.
The C scow races were won by Scott Tillema. David Moring was second and Dave Johnson third..
The Flying Scots had the largest group with 30 entries. This regatta was one of the series that make up the Flying Scots Florida District Championship. Chris Morgan was first, Hunter Riddle of Pensacola was second and Harry Carpenter of Deer Park, Maryland, who builds the Scots was third. Ron Baerwitz was the first Eustis sailor and seventh overall.
Club racing will continue next weekend with sailing activities near Ferran Park in conjunction with the Eustis celebration of George Fest. This will include on Saturday, Optimist classes for 8 to 15 years of age and the high school 420 sailing.
A new beginners class of Optimist pram sailing will start March 7 at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club.

WEEKLY REPORT

THE VILLAGES SAILING CLUB. Continues to operate. They had picnic and sail on Lake Miona last week and will have a sail this weekend on Lake Sumter Sunday afternoon. Putting the boats in about noon and sail from 1PM and out by 5PM.

Commodore Richard Moser had his computer out currently, so they are sort of out of the loop now.

THE OCALA SAILING CLUB. Has the invitation to their Regatta below. That is a conflict with the Mt. Dora regatta, but I assume more small scale and personal. The editor here dosen't take sides in these things. I race a Laser now, but have done a lot of these other things.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB. Report below about last weekend and this coming weekend is the big multiclass (except MC scows) GEORGE WASHINGTON BIRTHDAY REGATTA. Practice race on Friday and the real thing on Saturday and Sunday. Three courses, Porstmouth, lots of Scots, Lasers, 420s, Opti, camping, food-- all that stuff.

CENTRAL FLORIDA YACHT CLUB. No news from them. Trip to Boca Ciego last week?? Next on their list is the Clemens Cup Regatta March 14 and 15 at Hickory Point on Lake Harris and then the Mt. Dora Regatta on April 4 and 5.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION. They should have just finished races 4-5-6 of the winter series - no report. Sunday Social Sail scheduled for Feb 22.
I messed up the Tequila report last week and will try to stick it in right here. Look and see if it shows up. Well, I got it at the top of the blog, but probably too small to read. Sorry again.
I just looked and if you click on the report it should enlarge so you can read all the stuff-- who
and what.
THE SAILING CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA. We are still on the January and February news letter and no info about the coming programs. The next meeting at Colonialtown Community Center Feb 23. All the telephone numbers listed on the web site so it should be easy to call and find out what is happening if you are interested in going. I am sure the other things are happening -- social sail, races and lessons. Call if interested.
LAKE HARRIS SAILING CLUB. Last Tuesday about 25 people for lunch at Sarabande. Three came a Cape Dory Typhoon, the rest in cars. The docks there are sad, golfing and housing looks great. Will be more raft up and sails on Lake Harris with potlucks around the lake.
