LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Local sailor almost wins the big prize as 80 sailors from ten states squared off for five races in winds from light and shifty to exciting at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s MC scow Mid Winter Championship Regatta sailed on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Dave Moring, local sailor, won three of the five races, was second in another, and you would think that would be the best, but he had to eat a 44th in the second race and ended up in fourth place- just out of the big time.
Andy Burdick, president of the Melges Boat Company, the Wisconsin company that builds the boats was third, Skip Moorhouse, a sailmaker from New Jersey was second and Rob Terry, an ordinary sailor from Michigan managed to stay out of trouble and win the regatta with a best race of a 3rd and worst of 12th.
Prizes were awarded in other categories: first woman and overall fourteenth was Andrea Jarecki from Wisconsin, first youth and overall seventeenth was Coye Harrett also from Wisconsin, first under 50 year old was Andy Burdick, first 50 year old was Rob Terry, first 60 year old was Skip Moorhouse, first 70 year old and overall twenty-third was Bob Miller of Michigan.
Next week the Lake Eustis Sailing Club will resume club racing, youth training and high school sailing.
