LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The expected 8 teams entering the US Sailing Match Racing (two boats sailing against each other) Championships for Areas D and F held at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club this past weekend dropped to four with three teams from Florida and one from Wisconsin. Recent dropping of the match racing from the Summer Olympics of 2016 is blamed for the cancelations. Larry Londrigan of the Lake Baldwin Community Sailing LLC conducted 26 individual races on Saturday with his Geary 18 keel boats.
The winning skipper was Sean Ross of the University of South Florida with a score of 5. Second skipper was Wes Byre of Eckerd College with a score of 4 and third was the team of Ben Getchell, Luke Yates and Cameron Smith of Eustis High School with a score of 3.
Sean Ross’s team will advance to the finals at Balboa Yacht Club in Newport Beach, California on October 12 to 16.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION

We are preparing for next week's Florida Women's Sunfish Championship held on Lake Monroe Saturday and Sunday May 21,22. Please plan to come down to the Lake Monroe and watch the best Sunfish sailors Florida has to offer, including the reigning Champ our own Mindy Strauley. Please contact us if you want more details about the event or check the NOR on our website www.fla.lmsa.org

Wednesday night will as always feature our weekly Malibu Rum race. Come down to the Monroe Harbour boat ramps between 5:30 and 6 and we will get you on a boat. Or bring out your boat and try for a bottle of Malibu Rum. You don't have to be an LMSA member to sail.

Last weekend The Rudder Club of Jacksonville hosted the 58th annual Mug Race, the longest river race in the world. 38.5 nautical miles of racing between Palatka and Jacksonville on the St. John's river. LMSA had 8 boats in the competition and brought back a few Mugs to show for her efforts. Good show to all who raced!

See you on the water,
Andy

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCAITION

Wednesday night the Malibu Rum Race turned into a flat out drag race, literally. Due to this weekend's Mug Race, only 2 boats showed up to race. LMSA will have 8 or 9 boats in the race this weekend and most of them were on trailers being prepped as the Rum Race started. Winds were 12 knots out of the North and it made for a 1 tack race. Lough Bouy, started first by 1 minute over Show Me, but the boats were neck and neck at the turning mark. The return to the romance marks was a test of boat speed and both boats crossed the line almost dead even. Congratulations to Mike L. and Lance for their victory. My thanks to Don and Jeff L. for their efforts on Show Me.
