LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUIB

The 13th Annual Wayfarer Midwinter Championship Regatta at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club this weekend really turned exciting with windy conditions on Friday and Saturday resulting in multiple capsizes and boat swamping. This year it was truly International with Trevor Fisher from Ireland winning all the five races and pushing Al Schonborn from Canada, the usual winner, down into second place. Jim Heffernan from North Carolina was third. The first local boat was Ted Benedict in 7th place of the 17 boats competing.

Forty five MC scows from around the USA raced in the high winds of Saturday with Rob Seidelmann from New Jersey placing first. Scott Tillema, snowbird from Missouri, was second with Skip Moorhouse of New Jersey was third overall and the first in the 60 to 70 age group. Jessica Haverstock from Minnesota was first Woman. David Helmick of Longwood was the first in the 50 to 60 age group. Bob Miller from Michigan was the first in the over 70 age group. Races were cancelled on Sunday for lack of wind and competitors from Texas and other faraway places got early starts home.

Sailing instruction for youth 8 to 18 years continues every Saturday and the 42nd Annual George Washington Birthday Multiclass Regatta will be in 2 weeks.
