LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

At the Lake Eustis Sailing Club racing stalled with cold windy weather last Saturday, but the BBQ and the dedication of the club house in honor of Martin and Ineke Zonnenberg of Mount Dora went ahead as planned. Martin had guided the club as Commode from 2002 to 2004 and through the building of the club house and the establishment of the Youth Foundation to teach children to sail. During that time membership grew from 10 or 12 members to the present 140 members.

Racing on Saturday was limited to the Laser fleet with Dave Chapin winning the two races and Alejandro Illera second with Rob Krentel third.

On Saturday the Youth sailing students showed the adults how to do it by sailing both morning and afternoon in the Optimist prams, Laser 4.7 and 420 boats with wind gusts up to 28 mph.

Next weekend 70 boats are expected at the 42nd Annual George Washington Birthday Regatta at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club.
