The weekends activities.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s George Washington Birthday Regatta was challenged by winds, brisk and shifty, then light and shifty, and then none. This shortened the 5 race regatta to three races for the seven fleets on three races courses.

Pete Haley of Halifax Sailing Association was second and Jerry Beck was third.. Franklin Trainer on Halifax was the first youth in the Laser. Conner Kechriotis of Eustis was second and Josie Trainer of Halifax was third.
In the Optimist pram group of ages 8 to 15, Andrew Clarke of Halifax was the first overall and the first in the blue fleet. Delaney Caron was second and Luke Yates was third. Max Eppaillard was first in the green fleet, Aaron Pennington second and Hope Behnke third.
In the handicap fleet Steve Hayden was first in a Lightning, Geoff Moehl sailing an RS Feva was second and James Heffernan was third in a Wayfarer.
The C scow races were won by Scott Tillema. David Moring was second and Dave Johnson third..
The Flying Scots had the largest group with 30 entries. This regatta was one of the series that make up the Flying Scots Florida District Championship. Chris Morgan was first, Hunter Riddle of Pensacola was second and Harry Carpenter of Deer Park, Maryland, who builds the Scots was third. Ron Baerwitz was the first Eustis sailor and seventh overall.

WEEKLY REPORT

THE VILLAGES SAILING CLUB. Continues to operate. They had picnic and sail on Lake Miona last week and will have a sail this weekend on Lake Sumter Sunday afternoon. Putting the boats in about noon and sail from 1PM and out by 5PM.

Commodore Richard Moser had his computer out currently, so they are sort of out of the loop now.

THE OCALA SAILING CLUB. Has the invitation to their Regatta below. That is a conflict with the Mt. Dora regatta, but I assume more small scale and personal. The editor here dosen't take sides in these things. I race a Laser now, but have done a lot of these other things.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB. Report below about last weekend and this coming weekend is the big multiclass (except MC scows) GEORGE WASHINGTON BIRTHDAY REGATTA. Practice race on Friday and the real thing on Saturday and Sunday. Three courses, Porstmouth, lots of Scots, Lasers, 420s, Opti, camping, food-- all that stuff.

CENTRAL FLORIDA YACHT CLUB. No news from them. Trip to Boca Ciego last week?? Next on their list is the Clemens Cup Regatta March 14 and 15 at Hickory Point on Lake Harris and then the Mt. Dora Regatta on April 4 and 5.

LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION. They should have just finished races 4-5-6 of the winter series - no report. Sunday Social Sail scheduled for Feb 22.
I messed up the Tequila report last week and will try to stick it in right here. Look and see if it shows up. Well, I got it at the top of the blog, but probably too small to read. Sorry again.
I just looked and if you click on the report it should enlarge so you can read all the stuff-- who
and what.
THE SAILING CLUB OF CENTRAL FLORIDA. We are still on the January and February news letter and no info about the coming programs. The next meeting at Colonialtown Community Center Feb 23. All the telephone numbers listed on the web site so it should be easy to call and find out what is happening if you are interested in going. I am sure the other things are happening -- social sail, races and lessons. Call if interested.
LAKE HARRIS SAILING CLUB. Last Tuesday about 25 people for lunch at Sarabande. Three came a Cape Dory Typhoon, the rest in cars. The docks there are sad, golfing and housing looks great. Will be more raft up and sails on Lake Harris with potlucks around the lake.

In the large MC scow sailing over both days David Moring was first, Jon Pomerleau was second, and Lee Sayler was third. Candi Robb was first woman.
Don Browning won three of the four races over the weekend to lead the Flying Scot fleet with Ray Laguna second and George Golder third.
Alejandro Illera continued to lead the Laser fleet with Rob Krentel second and Sam Chapin third.
Jennifer Burno was first woman and Pearce Pomerleau was the first youth. Patrick Hall visiting from England showed some British roll tacks, but was a little mystified by the light winds and finished in the middle of the pack.
Richard Kinnie won both C scow races on Saturday.
The continued Optimist pram sailing lessons for ages 8 to 15 and coaching for the high school club 420 sailors continued this past Saturday.
Next week the Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s 39 th annual George Washington Birthday Regatta will hold practice racing on Friday and Regatta racing on Saturday and Sunday.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB.

There were three regattas, light winds, close racing and a train wreck at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club this weekend.
The tenth Annual Wayfarer regatta was in two sections. One flying spinnakers for the Wayfarer United States Championship which is an "Open Regatta" and the first three places won by sailors from Canada. First place after six races and won by only one place in the last race was perennial winner Al Schonborn from Toronto. In second was Frank Goulay from Ottawa and third was Peter Rahn from Montreal.
The second section was the Wayfarer Challenger series for boats sailed without spinnakers. After six races two boats were tied for first place and local sailor Jim Lingeman won the tie break with Butch Minson from Maine second and Jim McIntyre third.
The other regatta was the MC scow section of the George Washington Birthday Regatta with 35 boats entered including those from Georgia, Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Missouri and South Carolina. First three places went to sailors from Lake Eustis. Andy Fox first, David Moring second and Jon Pomerleau third. First woman was Candi Robb. First youth was Ben Getchell sailing with Luke Yates. First grand Master (over 60 years of age) Skip Moorhouse. First Mega master (over 70) Bob Miller.
The train wreck was just one engine and three empty hopper cars off the tracks of a train of three engines pulling a long line of empty cars south. It blocked numerous crossings on Sunday afternoon including the way in and out of the Sailing Club. The railroad repair folks worked all Sunday afternoon and did a wonderful job pulling the tracks together, the engine and cars back on the tracks. The crossings were cleared by late in the afternoon and the folks from Canada and the far flung states were able to head for home.
