LAKE MONROE SAILING ASSOCIATION

To all Members and Friends:

The Lake Monroe Sailing Association held their weekly Wednesday Night Rum Race last night. Six boats enter but only five boats competed. Wind Gods knew we were coming as the wind, swirly at times, was mainly out of the east around 10mph developing some minor white caps. This set up the Rum Course as a fast down wind with a very shifty upwind as boats tacked in all directions to make it back to the Romance marks.

DJ McCabe's Precision 23 once known as "Hard Hat" and now "Ha Ha" stole third from Lough-Buoy by 40 seconds on corrected time. Miss P. helmed by Mike Padgett rounded out the field in fifth place. This is Mike's second Rum Race of the season but his overall time is improving as he is becoming more familiar with the format. Ron Ferland on the Hunter 23 is gunning for the Rum as Ron and his dog single handed the Rum Course for a second place finish. Ron has his sites on the Cruzan Rum and it will only be a matter of time when we will be awarding him one. Andy Forrest had a crew of three on Show Me last night as they finished first on corrected time. This will be Show Me's fourth bottle of Rum for the season, but others are getting closer as Andy pointed out last night.

Show Me may be the boat to beat but you can not beat the sunsets that Lake Monroe offer. This is why we sail on Wednesday Night. It is not always about the rum! Mike Padgett took some great pictures last night and we have attached one for your viewing pleasure. Thanks again to Chuck and Scott at Lemoncello's for the great service and food.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

Brisk winds and visitors from around the state on Saturday made an exciting afternoon for Laser sailboat racing at Lake Eustis Sailing Club. Seventeen boats sailed in the first of the 2009 Treasure Coast Laser series that are four Saturday afternoon racing, one in Eustis and three on the East coast with them all scored together after all the races..
Eric Robbins of Tampa, recently from Connecticut sailed away with first place after six races. Dave Chapin of Winter Springs was second. Dick Tillman of Merritt Island was third. Randy Rea of Crystal River was fourth. David Hartman of Vero Beach was fifth. Travis Ouellette of North Palm beach was sixth. Kevin Ratigan of Orlando was the first Laser radial. Cindy Taylor of Titusville was the first woman. Seth Bahr of Eustis was the first youth.
That concludes the winter regatta season at the Lake Eustis Sailing club and the club will return to club racing in C scows, MC scows, Flying Scots, Wayfarers, and Lasers on a twice a month schedule with sailing lessons for youth in Optimist Prams and 420 boats every Saturday.

OCALA SAILING CLUB had a successful regatta this past weekend and several people from Lake Eustis Sailing Club participated. I have no official report.

MT. DORA YACHT CLUB had a successful regatta this past weekend. No official report, but I understand they had 21 Lasers, most of which will sail this Saturday at Lake Eustis in the Treasure Coast Laser races. I will add Mt Dora to the Central Florida Sailing list just so the list is more complete, but the regatta is the only thing they do now and much of the on the water things are done by the Lake Eustis group.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB was quiet this week with sailors and PROs at Mt. Dora and Ocala (Lake Weir)
