LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club hosted 38 boats plus parents and coaches from around Florida to the sixth Annual Mid Florida Lakes Youth Championships for Optis, Lasers, and Club 420 sailboats. Overall Opti winner was Reedy Monahan from Jacksonville, second Justin Callahan from Fort Meyers and third was J.J. Smith from St. Petersburg. The Opti green fleet leader was Justin Callahan. Leader in the blue fleet was Max Epaillard and in the White fleet Reedy Monahan.

First in the Laser4.7 boats was Baily Verkaik of Eustis, second Claire Epaillard of Mt. Dora, and third Michael Gapuz of Eustis.

The Laser radial winner was Adam Winton of Fort Meyers followed by Luke Yates of Sorrento and

Alicia Miscato of Sarasota.

Club 420 boats were led by Jonathan Watson and Hugh Ronald of Eustis. Darcy Jensen and Melanie Ladley of Eustis were second followed by Chris Nagy and Ayton Smith of Eustis third.

Next weekend the club returns to local racing with youth instruction on Saturday.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

At the Lake Eustis Sailing Club the calm winds at noon canceled some of the races over the weekend, but the overall winner in the races sailed by the MC scow fleet was David Helmick followed by John Houck and Dennis Oldham. In the Flying Scot group Ray Laguna continued domination with Dean Grimes and Joe Lobato second.   Gus Chennells was third.  The Wayfarer winner was Jim Lingeman with Mike Murto second and Jim McIntyre third. In the Laser class was Rob Krentel was first, Sam Chapin second and Patrick Daniel third.  Next week the club will host the 6th Annual Inland Lakes Youth Championship for Optis, Laser and Club 420 boats.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club and the Eustis Folk Festival got soggy from the rainy stormy weather over the weekend. No racing on Saturday and on Sunday only the Laser fleet sailors raced with Rob Krentel first , Sam Chapin second, and Marc Solal third.


The youth sailors struggled with instruction on Saturday and will continue every Saturday. Next Sunday in Women’s Fun Sailing Day-- no racing.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club held its 13th Annual Catamaran Regatta for catamaran sailors across Florida and while the club does not race catamarans regularly, three of the seven classes were won by local sailors. Alex Shafer won the Nacra 18 class, youth sailor Luke Yates won the Hobie 18 class in a borrowed boat and Bob Cole won the Open non-spinnaker 2 Class. The Nacra 16 class was led by Mac McDonald. Jody Abrams second and Terry Back third. Nacra 18’s won by Alex Shafer followed by Karl Bonifant and Dave Dunnn. Pete Haley led the Hobie 16’s. Bob Johnson was second with Steve Caron third. Luke Yates was first in the Hobie 18 with Connie Harper second and David Novell third. Gordon Isco was first in the Open Non-spinnaker class. Richard Kinnie second and Mark Baker third. The Open Non-spinnaker 2 class was won by Bob Cole with Bill Brooks second and John Cole third. Terry Loewen led the Open Spinnaker Fleet with Frank Rodericks second and Forest Lockliear third.

Club racing returns next weekend with youth instruction every Saturday.
