The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s Laser fleet had it’s twice a month races this past weekend with Sam Chapin the weekend winner. Jerry Beck was second and Vince Renzoni third.  Chris Nagy was the first Youth.

The Youth Sailing Camp has finished and sailing lessons for youth will begin again in September.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s Laser fleet struggled with the light winds and heat of the weekend, but managed to get four races in on both Saturday and Sunday.  Rob Krentel was first with Sam Chapin second and Jerry Beck third.

The scheduled MC scow match racing was postponed due to the light wind.

The youth foundation will have a learn to sail camp during next two weeks and then the Laser racing will return on the weekend in two weeks.

LAKE EUSTIS SAILING CLUB

The Lake Eustis Sailing Clubs celebration of the longest day of the year with sailing on Saturday fell a little short on visiting boats because of the big rain predictions, but the rain stayed away and the wind was light, delightful and helped get almost a hundred people out sailing on a variety of vessels. 

On Sunday the rain came as Tropical Storm Debby threw water and brisk winds to our area. The Laser Fleet has six races in the rain and mist with Rob Krentel first and Jerry Beck second.  Marc Solal and Sam Chapin were tied for third.  Michael Gapuz was the first youth.

Racing returns in two weeks and the Youth Beginners Sailing Camp starts July 9^th.

Wednesday Night Rum Racing!



LMSA will host their Wednesday Night Rum Race sponsored by Malibu Red on June20th. All Sailors, members and nonmembers of LMSA are invited to participate in the LMSA Wednesday Night Rum Race. What else is there to do on a Wednesday Night besides sailing. Come out and meet new people and have a few laughs, we guarantee that you will come back again.

Rules are simple:
a.) Show up on Marina Isle between 5pm and 6pm on a Wednesday Night.
b.) If you do not have a boat in the marina, bring your own or show up. We have never left a sailor on the dock.
c.) There is no race committee, so it is up to you, the skipper to start before 6:30pm.
d.) Course
1.) Go between the Old Romance PVC Pipe Marks, keeping the PVC pipe with
the flag to your port side. For the newbies these are right outside the
east basin of the marina. In other words you should be heading West
Northwest towards the #8 Navigational Mark.
2.) Starboard Rounding at the #8 Navigational Mark. Leave the navigational
mark on your starboard side.
3.) Head back to the Old Romance PVC Marks. This time the American Flag
should be on the Starboard side of the boat. That is unless someone
switched the flag position. Your boat should be heading East Southeast
towards Government Cut.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s Laser Fleet got in 12 races over the weekend before the afternoon and evening thunderstorms that hopefully raised the lake Level a little.  Sam Chapin was first with Marc Solal second and Vince Renzoni third. 

In two weeks the sailing club will host the public and six central Florida sailing clubs for an open house at the Lake Eustis Sailing Club for the “International Sailstice” to celebrate the longest day of the year by going sailing.   There will be a number of different sailboats present. Free sailboat rides, and   tours of the club from 11 to 4 on Saturday with a chili cook off and pot luck supper at 5 PM.

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club was entertained by light winds that seemed to come from all directions on Saturday and then Sunday strong north winds brought in by the early band of tropical storm Beryl that limited the racing to two Lasers and six Flying Scots.

The weekend winner in the MC scow fleet was David Moring followed by Dave Johnson and Ray Walker.  Jim Lingeman lead the Wayfarers with Mike Murto was second and Charlie Jensen third.  Dave Chapin won the Flying Scots. The Dean Grimes and Joe Lobato team was second with Gus Chennells third.  In the Laser group Patrick Daniel and Marc Solal were tied after ten races and Sam Chapin was third.

The Laser fleet will continue racing every two weeks during the summer while the other fleets have a lighter schedule until fall.
